MITTAGS-ABGRUND - 'Mittags Abgrund', LP [Pre-Reserve]

Originally spawned in St. Petersburg, Russia, in 2022 by sole member Sch., MITTAGS-ABGRUND’s album was a long time in the making which DSR now has the great pleasure of releasing.

Although, the self-titled full-length is MITTAGS-ABGRUND’s very first official release, it’s, fortunately, in no way, plagued by any of the shortcomings one usually encounters with new bands. Instead, the album’s nine epic anthems (including intro and outro), together clocking in at 48 minutes, boast with confidence and pridefully storm from victory to victory. Sonically, successfully blurring musically the line between Black- and Death Metal by organically merging elements from both genres into a vigorous hybrid, Sch.’s dynamic creations disclose compositional skill and musical aptitude alike. Guest-musician F.’s mind-blowing drumming performance deserves to be highlighted, too. His skills are way above average and considerably contribute to the album’s appeal.
With lyrics entirely penned in his native Russian and performed in a strikingly versatile way – spanning sinister howling, grim croaking reminiscent of ARMAGEDDA and clean chanting – while compositionally somewhat resembling the triumphant grandeur of AETERNUS, IMMORTAL or BÖLZER with a healthy dose of riffs akin to MORBID ANGEL thrown in for good measure, Mittags-Abgrund turned out a triumph on all levels.
